The Giara Park and its wild small horses

A walk through the paths of the Giara plateau, where time seems to stand still, between extraordinary colors and huge stretches of water named Paulis, meeting places of wild horses.

The horses gather around the Paulis to cool off and to feed water buttercups, which bloom April and May, covering the surface with a white blanket.

In this place there is an absolute absence of noise, except the slight chirping of the birds or the clattering of the hooves of the horses that run free. During the excursion you will be surrounded by the fragrance of the countless species of flowers, which with their scent mixed with fresh and pure air will drag you back in time. The Giara park (Giara di Gesturi or Sa Jara Manna) falls within 4 Municipalities: Genoni, Gesturi, Setzu and Tuili. It covers 44 km², about 15 of which belong to the Municipality of Genoni. The name Giara (Sa Jara, Pranu ‘e Jara) seems to derive from the Latin glarea (gravel), with reference to the widespread stony that characterizes its surface.

Considered one of the most spectacular places in the world, the Giara is a basalt plateau of volcanic origin with characteristic features, an enormous natural fortress located in the center of Sardinia that preserves a flora rich in endemic species and a fairytale environment.
